Profile Karl Fiorini was born in Malta on the 1st of December 1979. He graduated from the University of Malta, specialising in Music composition and in 2003 was offered a bursary to further his training more at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London. Karl had his music performed in festivals such as the Aberystwyth Arts Festival Wales (2001), The International Mediterranean Music Festival, Tunis (2004), the Compositors a Barcelona (2004) and the prestigious Europamusicale Festival in Germany (2004); the venues being the Berlin Konzerthaus, the Leipzig Gewandhaus and the Kurhaus in Wiesbaden. Other places where Karl’s music was performed are Lauderdale House, London (2005), The Light House, Poole (2005) with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Kyoto City Concert Hall, Japan (2005), Cesky Krumlov with the European Union Chamber Orchestra, Czech Republic (2005), St James Piccadilly Church, London (2005), the XII Edition of the Youth Biennial, Naples (2005), Adrian Boult Hall, Birmingham (2005); during a competition where the performers placed first with their interpretation of his Cello sonata, and the Auditório do Centro Cultural, Vila das Aves, Portugal (2005). Karl also won the Tracey Chadwell Memorial Prize for composition in 2005, London, and co-won the 22nd edition of the Alea III International Composition Competition in 2004, Boston, USA.

His works are scheduled for performance in Brazil, Canada, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, England, Germany, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and USA. Karl was invited to conduct the premiere of his composition Imagination at Work a commission based on the G.E.’s (General Electric) concept of the same name, with the Orquestra do Norte in Porto, Portugal, in October 2006.

Karl is currently reading for a Doctoral Degree in Music Composition at the Royal College of Music London and is also the artistic director of the International String Orchestra Festival, an annual event taking place for the first time in Malta in April 2007.
