Joel - thanks for recording these two little pieces - hearing them for real (along with the other recordings you made) has given me some ideas for the future. Many thanks again. Richard

Piece II: I loved the placement of the high notes. It really brought out a certain meloncholy softness in the soprano that I didn't think would be there. Maybe I was thinking of how those same notes would sound I the alto, and there was expecting it to be a little more forced. Cheers to both composer and performer!
Overall, well written and solid piece. I'm always aprehensive about giving too little specifics in a "classical" piece and too much in a "jazz" piece. I was certainly satisfied with Joel's interpretation of the ad lib. Was the composer satisfied with the "ad.lib" ?

Douglas - thank you for your positive comments. I was pleased with the way Joel managed the ad lib. I like the bit of freedom and the unpredictable element that an 'ad lib.' gives a piece - I have used it before and it was interesting to hear similarities between a recording of a previous piece and the interpretation of Piece II given by Joel, both for saxophone too. - Richard
