Summary:SATB quartet call
Deadline: 01 March 2019
Date Posted: 17 January 2019
Details: 2019 Composer Competition and call for scores!
Accepting submissions until March 1, 2019

The Uncommon Music Festival is seeking new compositions to perform and record during its 2019 Festival in Sitka, Alaska. Pieces should be written for SATB vocal quartet (no divisi) with optional piano or guitar accompaniment, have a duration of 3-5 minutes, and set English text.

All pieces submitted to the call for scores, regardless of previous public performance, will be considered for selection for the Festival. Pieces that have not received public performance will be considered for our Composer Competition, the winner of which will receive a $200 cash prize and guaranteed publishing with Performer’s Edition.

The Uncommon Music Festival supports diversity in classical music. We welcome submissions from composers of any age and experience level, and we encourage submissions from those who are underrepresented in classical music.

Compositions must fit the following criteria:
• Scored for SATB vocal quartet (no divisi) with optional piano or guitar accompaniment
• 3-5 minutes in length
• English text
• For consideration for the Composer Competition: the composition must not have received a public performance

All selected pieces will receive:
• A live performance at the 2019 Uncommon Music Festival
• A high-quality audio recording
• A $50 cash prize
• Consideration for publication by Performer’s Edition

The winner of the Composer Competition will receive:
• A live performance at the 2019 Uncommon Music Festival
• A high-quality audio recording
• A $200 cash prize
• Guaranteed publishing by Performer’s Edition

The composition can set any text, as long as that text is in English and used with permission. It may deal with any subject matter.
Note that the Festival reserves the right to freely distribute any recordings of selected compositions through physical or online media. Royalties from paid distribution will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
Applicants must submit the following:
• A PDF of the score
• An MP3 rendering (audio created by notation software is fine)
If your piece contains divisi, you must submit a note in the application that details how you would adapt the piece for vocal quartet. Any pieces with divisi without such a note will be immediately disqualified.

Applicants will be notified of the decision by March 31, 2019.
