Details: The 6th Annual Oh My Ears (Ome) New Music Festival Will Take Place Jan 31-feb 3rd, 2019 In Venues Around Phoenix Az. Applications Are Due August 15th, 2018 By 11:59pm Mst.

Our Guest Composer For 2019 Is Sarah Gibson.
Sarah Gibson Is A Los Angeles-based Composer And Pianist Whose Music Has Always Been Greatly Inspired By The Physicality Of Performing And The Communication That Occurs Between Performers Onstage. She Is Especially Drawn To Narrative In Her Work And Strives To Create A Sense Of Dialogue And Intimacy In Her Musical Language. Sarah Is Co-founder Of The New-music Piano Duo Hocket, Lauded As “brilliant” By La Times’ Mark Swed, And Has Played At Festivals Such As The Mata Festival, Carlsbad New Music Festival And Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Noon To Midnight. Sarah Is The Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra’s Sound Investment Composer For The 2018-2019 Season.

Who We Are: Ome Is A New Music Presenting Organization In Phoenix, Az That Seeks To Connect Emerging Composers, Ensembles, And Musicians With Each Other And With The Greater Phoenix Community. Ome Is Run By Elizabeth Kennedy Bayer (Founder/artistic Director) And Amber Walker (Assoc. Director).

The Festival: The Ome New Music Festival Is An Annual Event Where We Invite Emerging Ensembles, Solo Artists, And Projects From Around The Country To Perform New Works By Emerging And Established Composers. For Our Sixth Year, Ome Is Presenting Multiple Concerts At Venues Around Downtown Phoenix. Through These Various Settings, We Plan To Present Everyone In The Best Possible Environment For Their Work, Pairing Them With Other Artists That We Think Work Well Together.

What We Do: Ome Presents New Music. Our Definition Of New Music Encompasses A Wide Range Of Genres And Approaches. We Are Looking For Music That Comes Out Of Traditions Of Artists Like Pauline Oliveros, Steve Reich, George Lewis, John Cage, Laurie Anderson, Unsuk Chin, Or Julia Wolfe, Et Al. We Prefer Music Of The 21st Century, Though Late 20th Century Is Most Welcome. We Program Standard And Non-standard Chamber Ensembles, Experimental Groups, Modular Synth Artists, Soloists And Multi-genre/multi-media Projects. We Want To Help You To Tell Your Story, Share Your Art, And Get Your Music Out There. We Are Interested In And Welcome Living Composers And Improvisers From Non-western Traditions.

What We Offer: Our Minimum Guaranteed Payment Is $50/person Up To Five People Per Ensemble. For Groups Larger Than Five, We Can Offer $20/per Extra Person. If You Are Traveling From Out Of Town, We Will Provide Housing For You. Transportation Is Not Guaranteed, But We Will Do Our Best To Accommodate.

What We Expect: We Expect Everyone To Be Responsible And Professional. We Ask Our Artists To Do Their Best To Help Promote Their Participation In Our Festival And Use Their Social Media Presence To Promote What They’re Doing At Ome. We Will Provide Social Media Cards To Make This An Easy Task. We Expect Artists To Respond To Communication In A Timely Manner So We Can Keep Things Running Smoothly.
