Details: The first edition of the Basel Composition Competition, or BCC, shall take place from on 16 – 19 February 2017. Directed by the Head Juror Wolfgang Rihm, the international event was conceived by the Basel music manager Christoph Müller and the Paul Sacher Foundation as a means to attract the most exciting composers of today to Basel and have their works premiered by Basel orchestras. In this respect, the competition carries the spirit of the late Basel-born conductor and patron Paul Sacher. The BCC is open to composers of all ages and nationalities and welcomes new, non-premiered orchestral works. Ten of which shall be shortlisted by jury members Wolfgang Rihm, Michael Jarrel, Oliver Knussen and Felix Meyer to be premiered by Sinfonieorchester Basel and Kammerorchester Basel in the Competition, open to the public. The three winning works shall receive prizes for a total of CHF 100,000.

REQUIREMENT
o Composition of a work for symphony or chamber orchestra
o Maximum instrumentation: Woodwinds: 2-2-2-2; Brass: 2-2-1-1; Timpani / Percussion (4 musicians max.); Harp; Piano; Strings: 8-6-5-4-3 o Length: max. 20 min

ENTRY CONDITION
o Open to all composers, with no limitation as to age or nationality o The works submitted must be new, not yet premiered

o Filled in online application form and short biography on www.baselcompetition.com o Registration fee: CHF 50.

AWARDS
o First Prize: CHF 60,000
o Second Prize: CHF 25,000 o Third Prize: CHF 15,000
