Gérard Mortier leaves NYC Opera

Gerard Mortier has withdrawn from New York City Opera, following a financial short-fall that left Mortier with a limited budget. Mortier had launched an exciting program of opera including new commissions from Philip Glass and Charles Wuorinen as well as performances of Messiaen, Stravinsky, Britten and Janacek operas. The future is now unclear.
