Copyright Battle Settled in High Court

A bitter battle over the royalties to the hit 60s song 'A Whiter Shade of Pale' was today settled in the Britain's High Court.

Matthew Fisher, organist for the group Procol Harum, argued that he composed the famous organ melody in the song which had previously been attributed to singer Gary Brooker and lyricist Keith Reid. The judge ruled that, due to Brooker's larger role in the song, Fisher was in fact only entitled to 40% of the copyright (Fisher had claimed to be owed 50%).
