Yehudi Wyner Awarded Pulitzer Prize for Music
New York's Columbia University announced on the 17th April 2006 that Yehudi Wyner has been awarded the 2006 Pulitzer Prize for Music. Wyner received the prize for his piano concerto 'Chiavi in Mano' which was premiered by the Boston SO under Robert Levin in February 2005.Other nominees for the prize, which recognizes a 'distinguished musical composition by an American that has had its first performance or recording in the United States during the year, included Peter Lieberson and Chen Yi. As well as the $10,000 main prize the Pulitzer board also awarded jazz composer and pianist Theolonius Monk a posthumous citation.
