Profile
Matt Wright works as a composer, improviser and sound artist at the edges of concert and club culture, his output stretching from scores for early music ensembles and contemporary chamber groups to digital improvisation, turntablism, website installations and large events combining DJs, new music performers and digital media.
He is a Reader in Composition and Sonic Art at Canterbury Christ Church University, UK, and studied at the University of Huddersfield with the founder of the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Richard Steinitz, and leading British composer Christopher Fox. From 2002-2004 he studied with Louis Andriessen, Martijn Padding and Richard Ayres at the Royal Conservatory of the Netherlands in the Hague. From 2005-2008 he studied at Goldsmiths College, University of London, with composer and improvising violinist Roger Redgate.
In 2010, the first CD dedicated to his work, `Music at the Edge of Collapse` was released with the Dutch Ensemble Klang, and in 2011, `Trance Map`, a studio composition with saxophonist Evan Parker, was released on Parker`s psi label, gaining a 4 star review in the Financial Times.
