Interests Chamber and orchestral works, opera
Profile Originally from India, but settled in the UK since 1962. Largely self-taught. Composer of over 60 works, ranging from chamber and orchestral to film and TV scores. Performed extensively, both nationally and internationally, by artists including Zubin Mehta with the New York Philharmonic and Israel Philharmonic Orchestras and by Sir Andrew Davis with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Over forty BBC broadcasts, and eight BBC commissions, two of which were for major Proms pieces. Very interested in orchestral colour.
Awarded Padma Shree (the Order of the Lotus) by the Government of India in 1987 for his services to western classical music.
