London Sinfonietta The soaring 300-year-old arches of St John’s Smith Square are the backdrop for this absorbing opening to the season: an evening of immersive music as broad and compelling as Rothko’s grand canvases. Two world premieres form the centre of the programme, with a new work by Mexican composer Marisol Jiménez bristling against Laurence Crane’s understated style. Morton Feldman’s intimate portrait For Samuel Beckett, much admired and rarely performed, completes the bill. Sit back, soak up the atmosphere and lose yourself.
