Yuri Temirkanov conductor
Simon Trpèeski piano There’s nothing like seeing a legendary Russian orchestra unleashing the full power and passion of the great Russian masterworks. The St Petersburg Philharmonic enjoyed close associations with both Prokofiev and Shostakovich, whose works they perform tonight, alongside Rachmaninov’s richly romantic Second Piano Concerto with virtuoso Simon Trpèeski.
Classic FM’s Anne-Marie Minhall, recommends tonight’s concert: “A few years ago I got to hear the St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra perform under its conductor, Yuri Temirkanov, in its home city – I’ve never forgotten what a wonderful experience it was… this all-Russian programme looks to be a knockout.”
