Manchester Camerata

Conductor - Doughlas Boyd
Mezzo Soprano - Jane Irwin
Tenor - Peter Wedd

Manchester Camerata performs two masterpieces which express contrasting ideas about man's relationship with nature. Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony paints an idealised picture of rural life, while Mahler's setting of Chinese poems evoke nature's spiritual aspect in music both heart-breaking and sublime. The concert opens with Mosaic, a new work by Bushra El-Turk whose music is influenced by theatre, dance and literature as much as her Lebanese roots, life as a Londoner and her love of folk music.

Part of Eternal Blue Horizons: a day of events exploring Mahler's Song of the Earth.

Mahler in Manchester celebrates the 150th anniversary of the composer's birth.
