Soprano: Anu Komsi, Contralto: Hilary Summers, Ensemble Moderne

British composer George Benjamin is a major figure in today’s new music landscape. For the premiere of his first chamber opera, Benjamin teams up with prolific British playwright Martin Crimp to re-spin the delightfully macabre Pied Piper of Hamelin. Written specifically for Finnish soprano Anu Komsi and British contralto Hilary Summers, the score accentuates the emotional expressiveness of the performers’ voices. The production also features the Frankfurt-based new music group Ensemble Modern, making its first U.S. appearance since 2003.
