English composer Brian Ferneyhough (b. 1943) is the high priest of the New Complexity. His astonishingly complex, almost manic music dazzles the brain and the ear. Inspired by the Escher-like engravings of Giovanni Battista Piranesi, Carceri d'Invenzione is a series of pieces for small orchestra and soloists.
