English composer Brian Ferneyhough (b. 1943) is the high priest of the New Complexity. His astonishingly complex, almost manic music dazzles the brain and the ear. For this landmark concert Ensemble 21 tackles his largest and most daunting work to date, Carceri d'Invenzione (Dungeons of Invention). Inspired by the Escher-like engravings of Giovanni Battista Piranesi, Carceri d'Invenzione is a series of pieces for small orchestra and soloists. Don't miss this rare opportunity to hear the American premiere of the complete cycle.
