Oliver Knussen conducts his choice of Peter Maxwell Davies' groundbreaking and emotionally direct works that sent shockwaves through the musical world in the 1960s and 70s. As part of the South Bank Centre festival Max: Peter Maxwell Davies, a musician of our time, the concert weaves together a network of musical fragments and references from plainsong, a 13th-century motet, Schoenberg, a tragic fairy tale and a vocal assault course.

Max: Peter Maxwell Davies, a musician of our time runs from 17-30 April 2005 and includes performances by the London Sinfonietta, Endymion, City of London Sinfonia, Maggini Quartet, Choir of Westminster Cathedral, Royal Academy of Music and the Philharmonia Orchestra.

This performance will be broadcast on Radio 3's 'Performance on 3' on Tuesday 26 April at 7.30pm.
