Description
In 1954, it was thought impossible to run a mile in less than four minutes. On 6 May in Oxford, medical student Roger Bannister set out to achieve the impossible. Four Minute Mile portrays in sound the eager anticipation, the race itself (in four laps) and Bannister's agony and elation in breaking this particular barrier. A great British athletic success to remember in this Olympic year. As an accompaniament to Martin Jones' piece, Rita Adam has produced an imagined commentary (BBC style) which reflects the triumph and glory of Bannister’s historic achievement.
