Description
This piece aims to be in the great British tradition of band marches. Written originally for performance in the Borough of Greenwich, it celebrates London as a maritime city and origin of the longitude and time systems of the world. Embedded in it are the chimes of Big Ben, a reference to a famous popular song about London, and a reference to a piece by Sullivan, perhaps the greatest London-born composer, born in Lambeth. First performed by Lewisham Wind Band in 2007, the version performed as part of Cool Fusion has been rescored and re-edited by the composer in collaboration with John Holland.
