Description
The Ladies in my Life is comprised of three miniatures composed by employing a soggetto cavato system of composition. The basic principle behind the system is to give each letter of the alphabet a pitch equivalent and to thereby construct music out of a name. The rhythms, meters and tempos were derived from the inherent movement found within the pitch sequences and thereby serve to illuminate further, the music in each person’s name!
The soggetto cavato device used in the making of these pieces employs the exact sequence of letters which form each of the names (first, middle and last) of each of the ladies featured in this collection. This fact alone gives these miniatures the unique capacity to reflect something of the person they represent in musical terms.
