Description
The Ionian and Aeolian Fugues are a part of a larger collection containing fugues written in each of the other modes. This collection was composed during the winter months of 2005 with each fugue containing a short, melodic subject and answer, and three brief contrapuntal episodes.
All have been kept within the 9th position, so as to be accessible to any guitarist at an intermediate level and beyond. As well, each fugue has been fingered so as to be practical for the guitarist, without sacrificing the overall clarity of the contrapuntal texture. This particular pair of fugues is a well balanced and meditative major/minor couplet.
