Description
Rhapsody was inspired by Robert Schumann’s song Widmung and Franz Liszt’s piano transcription based on Schumann’s song. I was touched by the sincerity of the melody in Schumann’s song and moved by the virtuosic power that Liszt had infused into his own transcription. My choice of instrumentation was directly linked with these composers; the cello, a melodic instrument closest to resembling the human voice, and the piano, the instrument that Schumann and Liszt both worshiped.
