Description
I wrote this piece in January 2017 at the request of my friend and former piano teacher Kaoru Bingham, who suggested the title and subject. It attempts to suggest the slow struggling rebirth of the mythical bird, with partial triumphs alternating with setbacks until the final apotheosis in E major, leading to a reflective coda and a slightly ambiguous close.
