Cecilia Arditto (Buenos Aires, 1966) lives in the Netherlands since 2002.
She studied with Wim Henderickx at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and graduated cum laude in 2004 with a concert of selections from her chamber opera 'La hija de la hechicera recorre el mapa de los cuatro barrios en busca de su tortuga privada'. In Argentina she received diplomas from the Conservatorio Julián Aguirre and the Centro de Estudios Avanzados en Música Contemporánea (CEAMC) and also pursued studies with Gabriel Valverde and Mariano Etkin. Further in Europe she has followed seminars with Helmut Lachenmann, György Kurtag, Andre Richard and Pierre Audi.
She is co-founder of the Sound Forum Amsterdam, a monthly international composers forum for musical discussion and was also co-founder of L.V., a composers´ association (1996-2001) in Buenos Aires dedicated to promoting new music.
In the season 2006-2007, she is a guest programmer for Stichting Perpetuumm for several concerts in the series Latijns-amerikaanse Componisten aan ’t Ij, at the Muziekgebouw. She has also participated in the Composers 05-06 composers forum at the Walter Maas Huis in Bilthoven.
Ms. Arditto has received many prizes for her works, including First Composition Prize CCRR-CEAMC 1996, “Buenos Aires No Duerme¨ Prize 1998, Concurso Radio Clásica, Concurso de Composición CEAMC-Arditti String Quartet, Beca Antorchas for two consecutive years, and the Premio Fondo Nacional de las Artes. Her musica was also selected for the '3rd Forum International de Jeunes Compositeurs de l’Ensemble l’Aleph, France, the 'Boswil International Composition Seminar', Switzerland and the “Music at the Anthology Festival” in New York for two editions. In 2005, she was honored with the four month Camargo residence for artists in France.
Collaborating with Jorge Lumbreras, Arditto has also written music for musical-theatre and video animation, which has lead to several prizes. In the Netherlands she has worked with artists from other disciplines, such as Ida Lohman (magic lantern artist) and Ines Birkham, (dancer).
Her music has been performed in Argentina, Uruguay, Mexico (Forum Internacional de Música Contemporánea), USA, Canada, Germany, France, Switzerland, Netherlands, Lituania, etc.
