Meltemi -First Movement This piece was written for unaccompanied Trumpet and is performed by John Campbell. Meltemi is in three short movements and was inspired by travel to the Greek island of Aegina and depicts the different types of winds that occur in that region during the summer months. Meltemi is the name for the Greek Etesian wind that blows from the North to North Westerly over the Aegean Sea. The first movement begins with a fanfare like opening followed by fast running passages. The second movement Zephyr is gentle and light in character. A Zephyr is gentle warm westerly prevailing wind that blows during the Summer months. The final movement Gregale finishes in a lively style, and depicts the strong cool northeasterly wind which effects the island.
