Bela Bartok was born in Hungary in 1881 and moved to the United states in 1940. While still in Hungary, he composed his one and only opera, Bluebeard's Castle, which is still famous today. He was friends with famed composer Zoltan Szekely, another Hungarian composer. Bartok died in the US in 1945.
