james hesford Biography
James Hesford began performing in his early teens as a blues and soul guitarist, touring the UK and Europe. At the age of 19 he moved from South Yorkshire to London where he established himself as a leading jazz musician. In 1980 he won the Arts Council’s GLAA Young Jazz Musician of the Year and soon after moved to New York. In the two years that followed he performed all styles of jazz from bebop to free atonal improvisation as well as playing in punk bands.
James was co founder of Cellorhythmics (cello quartet) and Artistic Director and composer for WCMO (working classical music orchestra).
He is regularly commissioned to write for film, theatre and chamber ensembles.
James latest work is - Oliver Cheetams film 'Afterspace' and Jelly Bean Jack produced by the Little Angel Theatre - currently showing at the Roundhouse London. He is currently working on a commission for Fiori Musicali which will be premiered in Italy (Citarna) in June - Also - continuing his collaboration with Artists Ivanov and Chan - 24 hour non stop painting and composition projects - site specific work - in the UK and various locations around Europe.
