Nick Hwang, (b. 1982), began his musical training at age 6 and began composing in high school, writing solos and small ensemble pieces.
He has studied with James Paul Sain, Paul Koonce, Paul Richards and Paul Basler, at the University of Florida, where he earned his bachelor of arts degree in theory and composition. He began college as a microbiology student, but switched to music composition his junior year. Nick recently received his Masters Degree, studying with Dinos Constantinides at Louisiana State University. He is beginning his PhD with Stephen David Beck. He has written for mostly smaller ensembles, including String Quartet, Woodwind Quintet, Duos for Flute and Trumpet, Oboe and Bassoon, solos for Sax, Flute, Oboe, Bassoon, Piano, mixed vocal works, percussion, orchestra and most recently for theatre. Aside from composing, Nick is a local DJ and an avid ultimate frisbee player (involved in LSU’s and Baton Rouge’s club teams).
