Nocturne (2011) Nocturne is an eleven-minute work scored for chamber orchestra. The piece is very static and calm throughout, with simplistic oboe solos being prevalent throughout. The calm is disturbed by obtuse, weird brass fanfares leading up to the climax, breaking up the very chordal texture which had come before. The piece, almost always struggling to escape from its state of calmness, ends as it began by disappearing to almost nothing.
This recording is the RNCM Brand New Orchestra, conducted by Jon Malaxetxebarria.
