Matthew Rowan holds a PhD in Contemporary Composition. He received an AHRC-funded commission for the Northumbrian Exchanges project, and submitted winning entries to the John Armitage Memorial, the Red Note Ensemble, the Kate Halsall Maché and the 2nd Peter Rosser Composition Award competitions. His compositions have received performances in the UK, Europe and the USA. To complement his work as a composer, he has been teaching composition for over 14 years at Newcastle University. He is a member of the Association of Irish Composers and is represented by the Contemporary Music Centre.
