Martin Gaughan Biography
Born in York of Irish descent, Martin is a composition graduate from Trinity College of Music. His musical influences are many: Claudio Monteverdi, George Crumb, Anton Webern, George Benjamin, Luigi Dallapiccola, Morton Feldman, Hector Berlioz, Robert and Clara Schumann as well as the darker pieces of Mozart and Beethoven. Martin's music has been described as dark, mysterious and passionate; it is both new and contemporary, disturbing and beautiful. Martin also writes poetry, which has won prizes and has been published in two anthologies. His poetry is nocturnal, violet and crimson, honest and profound.
