Required Qualifications:
- PhD, DMA or MFA in composition or commensurate experience;
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching composition and/or theory at the collegiate level;
- Evidence of significant creative achievement as demonstrated through public performances, presentations, and/or publications;
- Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in creative activity and research, teaching and service

Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated excellence in developing and teaching undergraduate core theory classes;
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels;
- Ability to teach in an area of specialized interest, which might include but is not limited to: contemporary popular music, music for film/video/stage, 20th/21st-century music theory, music technology, sound art, digital culture, improvisation;
- Ability to contribute to and design courses on popular music, and/or music for film, video or stage;
- Ability to work with students, faculty, and staff from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds;
- Ability to mentor students in a wide range of styles and techniques;
- Research interests that complement existing department strengths;
- Interest in collaborating with faculty and students in other areas of the Herberger Institute (e.g. dance, film, animation, etc.) and across the university on creative, research, and potential external grant projects;
- The ability to work and collaborate across disciplines, outside the arts, across campus, and in the community;
- The ability to attract resources, including grants or other sources of support that advance the Herberger mission.

- Curriculum vitae;
- A one-page teaching philosophy statement;
- A one-page statement addressing the candidate’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion;
- Three confidential letters of reference; and,
- Three examples of creative work along with corresponding audio and/or video recordings. One of these examples can be a scholarly writing, if desired. Application Deadline: The application deadline is November 15, 2019. Applications will continue to be accepted on a rolling basis for a reserve pool. Applications in the reserve pool may then be reviewed in the order in which they were received until the position is filled.
