MicroFest Prague 2020

 MicroFest Prague 2020
Summary:Call for Works for Recorder
Deadline: 08 December 2019
Date Posted: 19 September 2019
Details: We announce that microtonal compositions for recorder(s) are sought for a concert in Prague on Saturday 25th of April, 2020. The music will be performed by recorder player Linnéa Sundfær Casserly (NOR/FIN) in a recital concert of the MicroFest Prague 2020 / Institut mikrointervalové hudby 2020. Works should be for one performer on one or two recorders and include microtonality. Stereo “tape” electronics is available. The performer is also a soprano singer, with the singing range two and a half octaves g – c3. Thus the music can use the performer’s voice for singing, speaking or singing into the recorder while exhaling. Theatrical elements can also be included in the composition. The recorders are of standard design, and microtonality has its usual limitations.

The available recorders and their ranges are (in German notation)
Soprano recorder: c2 – f5
Alto recorder: f1 – c4
Tenor recorder c1 – f4
Ganassi recorder (an alto recorder variant): g1 – g3

The concert space will be HAMU Galeria at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. In the concert, Linnéa Sundfær Casserly and two other soloists on wind instruments will also showcase works from recent standard repertoire that include microtonality.

Works containing improvised, meaning not strictly and thoroughly notated, durations and dynamics will also be considered. Microtonal elements can be notated with high precision if desired.

Submission Rules and Guidelines

Please send a finished microtonal composition for one of the combinations mentioned (no live electronics available). Two different recorders maximum may be used in one work. Works between 4 and 10 minutes are given slight preference. There are no limitations as to who may apply. The work may be old or new, previously performed or unperformed.

Your message has to contain the performance material and duration estimate for your finished work, year of composition, and your composer name, telephone number and email address. Other contact or biographical information is not necessary.

No specific preparations, live electronics, video, lighting or additional stage objects are allowed.
