KHORIKOS

 KHORIKOS
Summary:Choir seeks scores
Deadline: 01 October 2019
Date Posted: 21 August 2019
Details: KHORIKOS, one of NYC's premier vocal ensembles, is accepting a cappella score submissions for our 4th ORTUS International New Music Competition.

Send us your best work for mixed a cappella choir! Previously unperformed pieces are welcome, but not required; premieres are not the focus of this competition.

DETAILS:

-One submission per composer. No age limits. Only submissions made by the composers themselves will be considered.
-Submission deadline is October 1st, 2019.
-15 minutes maximum duration. Shorter works are, of course, welcome.
-Your submission must include an audio representation of your score in some form (please see below for details).

-KHORIKOS is a balanced choir of 30 SATB voices.
-Any level of technical difficulty welcome, from the simple and beautiful to the complex and dazzling—your imagination is the limit.
-Winning compositions will be announced around the new year.
-We will confirm receipt of your submission once the deadline has passed.
-Previous winners are ineligible.

We will select 15-30 finalists from the pool of submissions (depending on the duration of the pieces), and the singers of KHORIKOS will select the winning compositions from among those finalists.

If selected, your music will be given meaningful aesthetic attention during a thorough rehearsal cycle—not just a clean reading by a group of professionals.

The winning compositions will be performed in our beautiful home space, The Shrine Church of St. Anthony of Padua, in New York City’s historic SOHO, on Saturday, April 4th, 2020. We hope to live-stream this performance, making your music accessible worldwide. Previous ORTUS concerts have drawn thousands of online viewers.

SUBMISSION PROCESS:

Sending an audio file along with the score is necessary in order to streamline the selection process. This could be a MIDI realization, a rehearsal/performance recording, or a recording of a piano/instrumental reduction. There’s nothing wrong with using MIDI, and the quality of the recording you send will not reflect on your submission as long as the audio sufficiently represents the score.

Please submit your scores and audio realizations via email to ORTUS2020@dorianartists.com and include "new music for Khorikos" in the subject. Attachments or direct links to downloadable files are preferred, and please make sure any download links remain active until November 1st, 2019. Please do not link to a streaming platform.

Lastly, whether or not you’re submitting, please help us share this post with music communities and composers around the world. Like us on Facebook to receive updates on the competition, profiles of the winning composers, and more.

Thank you for your music!
