Details: To address the current dearth of orchestral performance opportunities available to American composers, Riverside Symphony announces an opportunity for U.S. citizens and permanent residents of any age to have their orchestral works performed in an open rehearsal/workshop setting at the DiMenna Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, January 4, 2020. Winning composers will provided with a recording of their work for archival use only.

Up to four works, drawing on the following instrumentation, will be selected:
2 2 2 2 2 2 1 0 keyboard, percussion, timpani, strings
• Orchestral works exceeding this instrumentation may be submitted for consideration. However, if selected, such works must be re-scored to meet the specified requirements within the six-week period between notification and the materials deadline (see below for program rollout dates).
• Similarly, chamber works suitable for orchestral adaptation will be considered under the above-stated conditions, i.e. that the composer re-score the work within the allotted six-week period .
• Works requiring soloist(s) will also be considered with the understanding that associated fees and transportation costs will be covered by the composer.
• One submission per composer

Submission deadline (application received): September 2, 2019
Composer notification: October 15, 2019
Materials deadline: November 26, 2019

• Applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful and permanent resident, or full-time student in the United States.
• Composers of all ages and at any stages in their careers are welcome to apply. Scores will be selected solely on the basis of artistic merit.
• Only composers with demonstrable ongoing access to major touring orchestras are discouraged from applying. Those who have been limited to regional orchestral performances are fully eligible. Composers also need not be strangers to Riverside Symphony to apply.

Submission requirements:
Application materials must be submitted electronically as PDFs to with the subject line “Composer Reading Application Submission”. Please include the following:
• Curriculum Vitae
• A brief note introducing the work with performance history (if applicable)
• [For each submitted work,] a PDF score and either a live recording or MIDI realization (must be MP3 file)

N.B. If a MIDI realization is submitted, please ensure the use of up-to-date sound patches.

Incomplete, illegible or late submissions will not be considered.
