CoDI 2019/20

 CoDI 2019/20
Summary:Opportunity for Welsh Composers
Deadline: 04 July 2019
Date Posted: 19 June 2019
Details: Following awards from Arts Council of Wales and PRS Foundation, Tŷ Cerdd announces a new season of CoDI, building on the success of the first year.

CoDI 2019/20 is packed full of composer pathways, introducing three new strands, while amplifying the central Interact hub of professional development activity:

OPPORTUNITY 1:
SOUND pathway to writing for ensemble and electronics (Bangor)
Six composers will work with UPROAR (Wales-based new music ensemble, directed by Michael Rafferty) and lead composer Andrew Lewis to create a work for conducted chamber ensemble (flute, clarinet, piano, violin, cello) and electronics.

Each composer will receive a £500 global fee for participating in CoDI Sound. The activity will take place in Bangor, and we will cover participants’ travel costs within Wales where necessary. MORE INFO + APPLICATION FORM

OPPORTUNITY 2:
TEXT pathway to composing with text (Cardiff)
Six composers will work with lead composer Joseph Davies and writer Kaite O’Reilly on exploring the use of text in composition. An ensemble of three performers (lineup) – specially recruited post-graduate performers from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama – will work alongside the composers over three workshop periods, culminating in a *sharing/recording at the Tŷ Cerdd Studio. All activity will take place in Cardiff.

Each composer will receive a £500 global fee for participating in CoDI Text. The activity will take place in Cardiff, and we will cover participants’ travel costs within Wales where necessary. MORE INFO + APPLICATION FORM

OPPORTUNITY 3:
MOVE
pathway to: writing for movement; engagement with learning-disabled actors (Wales wide)
Up to five composers/sound artists from a broad stylistic range will be recruited to work in the Hijinx Academies – which train professional learning-disabled actors in Aberystwyth, Cardiff, Carmarthen and Prestatyn. Lead composer Tic Ashfield will provide mentoring in writing for movement / theatre / dance; support in working in a learning-disabled training setting will come from local choreographers and course leaders.
The selected artists will be resident in their local Academy for one afternoon per week (see schedule below), creating a work for the Academy actors to perform with in their end-of-term sharing – and potentially in the organisation’s annual showcase.

The participants will realise the sound for the final performance (no additional budget is available for this element), so artists must consider how this will work in their case (eg: electronic, self-performed keyboard; singer-songwriter; percussion).

Each composer will receive a global fee of £750 for participating in CoDI Move.
