ORCHESTRA GIOVANILE DI MONZA E BRIANZA

 ORCHESTRA GIOVANILE DI MONZA E BRIANZA
Summary:International composers’ competition
Deadline: 15 October 2019
Date Posted: 19 June 2019
Details: ART.1 - DESTINATION OF THE COMPETITION

The Competition is open to all composition students of any European Music Academies.
It consists in an original composition or transcription for the “Orchestra giovanile di Monza e Brianza” (OgMB), which is formed by young musicians from 10 to 16 years old, who are learning a music instrument at an Italian music school.

Aim of the Competion is to create a repertoire of contemporary music especially conceived for this orchestra.

Organic
The instrumentation of the work should be similar to that of the OgMB, that is:
- Strings (violins I, violins II, violas, cellos, double basses);
- woodwinds (flutes I and II -ev. piccolo, clarinets I and II -ev. bass clarinet, sax contraltos I and II);
- brasses (horns I and II, trumpets in B I and II, trombones I and II);
- accordions;
- classical guitars (I and II);
- 2 electric pianos (possibly with 4 hands);
- percussions (2 timpani, marimba -ev. 4 hands, glockenspiel, snare drum, bass drum, cymbals, triangle etc...).

Technical information
Although there are some students from the musical high school, the difficulty of each part will have to take into account the average degree of instrumental skills that can be achieved after three years in the musical “scuola media”
The parts of the strings must not be divided. There must be the utmost caution when inserting passages in position. Harmonics are only possible if they are natural (up to the third harmonic). It is also possible to use special techniques or extended techniques if they are simple to play.

The parts of the winds can be doubled.
It is possible, however, to include single and circumscribed moments "a solo" or "a due" etc... of a greater difficulty degree.
No section will be amplified (with the exception of a control box for electric piano).
The piece must have a maximum of 15 minutes and can be freely articulated in a single movement, in more movements, suite/collection of more pieces...
