Details: Guidelines:

1. ELIGIBILITY: The MSO’s Call for Scores is open to all composers who are under the age of thirty-five (35) as of July 1st, 2019.

2. LOGISTICS:

- Applications must be submitted through the form found at: www.themso.org/callforscores
- Application deadline: July 1st, 2019
- Application must be submitted with a fee of $10 (a PayPal link will appear upon submission)
- Multiple submissions are permissible, however each require a separate application fee
- Scores must be submitted digitally in PDF format
- All scores should include your name as part of the file (i.e. lastname_title.pdf)
- Recordings are preferred, but not required (MIDI is acceptable)
- Applicants will be notified of the results by August 15th, 2018

3. PRIZES:

First Prize:

- Quartet is performed by the MANA Quartet
- Recording of the composer’s quartet from the above concert is provided
- Named Composer-in-Residence for the MSO’s 2019-20 season, culminating with a new work for the Megalopolis Saxophone Orchestra in the Spring of 2020
- Opportunity to present a pre-concert lecture on their works
- $500 Commissioning Fee

Second, Third, and Fourth Prize:

- Quartet is performed by the MANA Quartet
- Recording of the composer’s quartet from the above concert is provided
- Composers will be asked to submit head shots, professional bios, and recordings to be featured on the MSO’s website and social media channels

4. COMPOSITION:

- Total performance time for the composition is limited to no more than fifteen (15) minutes.
- Works must be scored for four (4) saxophones:
- (1) Soprano, (1) alto, (1) tenor, and (1) baritone
- Works must have been written within the last five (5) years as of July 1st, 2019.
- Works that have been previously published, performed in concert, or commercially recorded are welcome to be submitted.
- Works incorporating prepared saxophone(s) will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- At this time, we are not able to support works with electronics for the upcoming season.
