highSCORE Festival is today’s leading Italian Contemporary Music Festival offering unique programs with masterclasses specifically shaped for composers, one of the «ten summer festivals to get the contemporary music blood pumping» (Composition: Today). The upcoming 10th edition (August 5-17, 2019) features an outstanding internationally recognized faculty roster: Kaija Saariaho and Jean-Baptiste Barrière, guests of honor; Amy Beth Kirsten, David Ludwig, and Dmitri Tymoczko, the core of our composition faculty; adjunct faculty Kristel Pappel and Christopher Theofanidis, and lecturers Alberto Barberis, Giovanni Cestino, Tze Yeung Ho. Guest ensembles and performers invited to perform the music submitted by participant composers are Ensemble +47 (Norway), Quartetto Indaco (Italy), unassisted fold (Germany/Italy) and Katsiaryna Shapachka (Belarus). Application deadline is April 12, 2019.

Founded in 2010 and set every summer in historical Pavia (Northern Italy), highSCORE Festival is an invaluable venue for emerging composers wanting to produce and promote their work, inspire audiences with their music, secure future commissions and job opportunities, and join other musicians to create a vibrant artistic community. Musicians work closely with a renowned faculty, talented visiting artists and special guests from around the world for two intense weeks of masterclasses, lectures, workshops and concerts. The Festival offers composers a choice between two programs of study – an intense Full Composition Program and a Light Composition Program – along with several concerts and recreational events to enjoy the beauty of Northern Italy. Performances during the festival are presented at cultural and historical sites throughout Pavia.

Venues included the famous Church of St. Peter in the Golden Sky where St. Augustine and Boetius are buried. The “F. Vittadini” Higher Institute of Music Studies, Pavia’s conservatory, with its large, well-equipped rooms with Vertical and Grand Pianos, is the core of the highSCORE Festival. Accommodation will be in shared rooms at the Campus Residence Dormitory. Each apartment is equipped with kitchen, bathroom, air conditioning, and wireless connection. The compound also includes a study room, a launderette, and a bicycle parking area. Newly built are a fitness center, a beauty SPA, covered and open air pools, and a cafeteria.

The festival, under the young and creative artistic direction of Giovanni Albini and the executive production of Paolo Fosso, is produced by the highSCORE New Music Center.
