Details: The University of North Georgia announces the 2018 Research on Contemporary Composition Conference, to be held at the University of North Georgia, November 10 and 11, 2018. The conference will feature music performances and research focused on music composed within the past 15 years. The conference will also feature social events such as a group dinner and a caravan/excursion to waterfalls.

RESEARCH
We invite papers on all topics related to the composition, performance, and teaching of recently composed music. Presentations will be limited to 30 minutes. We are especially interested in presentations addressing:
• professional programming of composers of diverse backgrounds
• analytical/theoretical research on recent composition
• exploration of lesser known composers
• experimentalism
• scholarship of teaching and learning contemporary composition
• interchange with disciplines outside of music
• theory
• commisioning contemporary composition
• current roles of composers and performers
• exploration of music for films/games, jazz composition and arranging, and commercial settings

PERFORMANCE
• CONFERENCE RECITALS – Electronic (stereo) and/or live performers; bring your own performer or conference recitalists (any combination of (please limit to 1 - 3 players): flute, oboe, soprano or alto saxophone, euphonium, voice (baritone), toy piano, piano, percussion). Time limit for each composition is 12 minutes. Please submit, at a minimum, a score without reference to the composer. Electronic realizations are optional, however electronic only submissions may be submitted as audio only.
• SHARE THE SCORE – Posters showing pages from current scores, graphic or traditional. Please include a short write up explaining the uniqueness of the score. Posters are to be 48" x 36" and horizontal orientation.

CONFERENCE
All proposals will be submitted blindly and selected based on relevance and quality. We encourage music scholarship on any level (K-12, higher education, community) with emphasis given to research on contemporary (music composed within the past 15 years). Proposals due by September 1, 2018. Invited participants will be required to register for the conference.

All events will happen on the University of North Georgia’s Dahlonega campus. This picturesque community, about an hour north of metro Atlanta, is the home of the first major gold rush in the nation and a popular tourist attraction nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. With stunning waterfalls surrounded by lush forests inhabited by abundant wildlife, the north Georgia region draws visitors who enjoy hiking, mountain climbing, rafting, canoeing, and camping.
