HEX Ensemble

 HEX Ensemble
Summary:Vocal sextet call
Deadline: 01 September 2018
Date Posted: 25 July 2018
Details: HEX is a contemporary vocal sextet based in Los Angeles interested in performing works that reimagine the expressive potential of the human voice and reframing the human voice in interesting ways. Our group features singers who have performed with LA Opera, the Los Angeles Master Chorale, LA Choral Lab, C3LA: The Contemporary Choral Collective of Los Angeles, Tonality; and have interests as wide as Renaissance madrigals to musical theater to microtonal singing. Take a look at our Repertoire page to find more info about what we have performed in the past, and take a look at our Upcoming Events to see what we’ll be performing in the upcoming season.

HEX is looking for pieces from California composers that best showcase the flexibility, adaptability, and virtuosity of the group. Our group consists of a soprano, mezzo-soprano/alto, countertenor, tenor, baritone, and bass, as well as yodelers, beatboxers, MCs, and overtone singers. Some pieces will be considered for our local composers concert in June 2019 at the Pasadena Performing Arts Center, as part of the Sound and Fury Concert Series, and may be considered for performances and recordings in the future.

Here are our specifications:
• Pieces can be any length.
• These pieces MUST be written for six voices. We will not accept pieces of any other voicing. Acapella pieces are preferred, but we will consider pieces that include instruments and electronics.
• We encourage composers to send us pieces that are “outside the box.” Graphic scores, scores with alternate notation, scores with no notation, and text scores are all welcome.

If you have a score, please e-mail it to info@hexensemble.org. Please include your name, where you are based, and any additional information about the piece. Feel free to send recordings and/or MIDI realizations as well. We will accept scores until Sept. 1st, 2018.

If you have any questions, or you are not sure if your piece fits the qualifications, please feel free to contact us at info@hexensemble.org. We look forward to hearing what you have to offer!
