The 20th Chopin and Friends Festival and Four Corners Ensemble proudly announce "New Vision" Composition Competition. Submitted compositions will be judged by a screening panel of Jakub Polaczyk (composer and pianist, Music Director of Festival Chopin and Friends /New York Conservatory of Music), Marcel Chyrzyński (Director of the International Festival of Krakow Composers and Director of the Institute of Composition, Conducting and Music Theory of Music Academy of Krakow), Shuying Li (Artistic Director of Four Corners Ensemble, Composer in Residence with American Lyric Theater), and members of Four Corners Ensemble (Merryl Neille, flutist; Joshua Anderson, clarinetist; Arianna Dotto, violinist; Joachim Angster, violist; Siyuan Li, pianist). 3 winning compositions will be selected to be premiered by the Four Corners Ensemble at the “New Vision” Concert of the 20th Chopin and Friends Festival on November 16, 2018 at the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York City. Submission Guidelines Eligibility: Eligible composers are those who are in the early to middle stages of developing an international career and for whom this prize would represent a significant career opportunity. Submitted works may have received premieres or/and performances in the past. Instrumentation: Flute, clarinet, violin, viola, piano. Compositions may be scored for any subsets of the instrumentation listed (flute, clarinet, violin, viola, and piano) from solo to quintet. Length: Compositions may not exceed 7 minutes in length. Materials for Submission: Applications will only be accepted via email to fourcornersensemble@gmail.com. Composers must include the following materials as email attachments: • Cover letter (PDF or MS Word format) that includes applicant’s name, address, phone number, and email, plus the title, duration, and year of the composition entered. • Artistic resumé or CV • Full score (PDF format only, do not include parts): composer’s name should not be on the score, as scores will be reviewed anonymously. • Receipt of application fee submission. It is strongly encouraged that composers also include these additional materials in their application: • Audio recording of the piece (MP3 preferable, though MIDI rendering is acceptable) • Program notes Fee: $25 each composition. Composers may submit up to 3 works each person. Payment accepted online via PayPal paid to as well as the payment link shown below. Please send your receipt to fourcornersensemble@gmail.com and include "New Vision Competition/applicant’s name" in the subject line. Judging: A panel of judges will choose 3 compositions to be awarded First Prizes. These 3 compositions will be premiered by the Four Corners Ensemble at the “New Vision” Concert of the 20th Chopin and Friends Festival on November 16, 2018 at the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York City. It is strongly preferred that prize winners be presented at the rehearsals and at the performance. However, the committee at this time cannot provide financial support towards airfare and accommodation for travel arrangements occured. In addition to the 3 First Prize winners, the panel of judges may select additional works to be awarded Second, Third Prizes as well as honorable distinctions.
