New Gallery Concert Series is now accepting score submissions for its third annual Composition Competition. The winning piece will be performed during the 2018-19 season and the winning composer will receive a recording of the performance. Composers will be notified on April 23, 2018. There is an entry fee of $10 to help cover printing costs. Composers must attend the performance in Cambridge, MA. Housing accommodations will be provided if necessary. The composer will be responsible for supplying parts and score for performance by October 1, 2018.

Founded by Artistic Director Sarah Bob in the fall of 2000, New Gallery Concert Series presents new pieces of music and visual art, along with the composers and artists who create them. In its 18 seasons, the series has hosted over 56 concerts with over 300 musical compositions, 72 world premieres and hundreds of works by over three dozen visual artists from around the world. With works that span the spectrum from classical-contemporary, improvisation, electronic music and the avant-garde to sculpture, painting, indoor installations, photography and film, NGCS’s programs are cohesive, diverse, exciting and intimate.

Eligibility:
Composers of any age or nationality or stage of their career. Limit of one piece per composer.

Medium:
• Scores for 2-4 instruments from the following list:
- Flute
- Clarinet
- Oboe
- English Horn
- Bass Clarinet
- Alto or Tenor Saxophone
- Trumpet
- Trombone
- Violin
- Viola
- Violin cello
- Piano (1 player)
- Percussion (1 player)
- Soprano voice

• Pieces should have a duration of 6-11 minutes.
• Works that include electronics are NOT eligible.
• Recordings are not required, but strongly encouraged. MIDI renderings are acceptable.

Submission:

Complete the New Gallery Concert Series Call for Scores 2018 application form which, among other things, will ask for:

• PDF of the score with the composer’s name removed.
• Optional mp3 live recording or MIDI rendering of the work. The file must not contain the composer’s name.
