mac Birmingham and Hare and Hounds are in partnership together currently seeking a composer to collaborate with community groups in Hall Green.

The successful artist will create an original piece of music that reflects the character of the area which will be a part of a suite of 10 new works – one for each District in Birmingham. The unique musical pieces will be distributed online in a Sound Map of Birmingham and through limited Edition vinyl, there will be a performance of the work held in Hall Green and this will become a part of the wider for-Wards suite of new pieces.

This particular project forms part of the citywide for-Wards programme which celebrates the City’s diverse communities. We are looking for a composer who is able too:

• Demonstrate a high level of music creation
• Have great communication skills
• Have experience working with communities / groups
• Be strong performers with a growing/established reputation
• Have a specific and real connection with Birmingham

This opportunity will enable you to bring your own creative practice together with themes, sound recordings, stories and ideas to create work that is collaborative and genuinely meaningful to those it is created for.

We want this project to help build a genuine relationship between us and the people we are reaching out to, as well as connecting people to new ideas, styles and approaches in music making.

So far for-wards have commissioned jazz, soul, metal and classical musicians. We are keen to reflect the many music styles that represent our City.

What’s next? Bhangra, folk, Quawwali or something else? Are you an individual musician, performer or composer or maybe you are a band?
