The Columbia Civic Orchestra (CCO) and the Columbia Chamber Choir in collaboration with the University of Missouri's Mizzou New Music Initiative annually present a concert of new music specifically for orchestra and chamber choir. The CCO will perform three works and the Choir will perform two works selected through the 2017 Missouri Composers Orchestra Project, funded by the Sinquefield Charitable Foundation. Each of the composers of the selected works will be awarded a $500 honorarium. This year's concert will take place at Broadway Christian Church, 2601 West Broadway, Columbia, MO, 65203, at 7:30 pm the evening of Sunday, March 19, 2017. The concert is FREE and open to the public. A dress rehearsal with the composers present will take place in the church from 3:00-6:15 pm that afternoon. Columbia Civic Orchestra Music Director Stefan Freund and Columbia Chamber Choir Artistic Director Emily Andrews, along with several guest conductors, will conduct the concert. MISSOURI OPEN SELECTED ORCHESTRAL WORK One piece will be selected from an open category in the state of Missouri. The piece must be a recent work for symphony orchestra* up to 10 minutes in duration. The piece must have been composed while the composer was living in Missouri. The winning composer will receive a $500 honorarium. *The maximum instrumentation for submissions will be 2+pic, 2+ EH, 2+b cl,2 4,3,3,1 Timp+2 Perc Strings. See application items below. MISSOURI HIGH SCHOOL SELECTED ORCHESTRAL WORK One piece for orchestra* or string orchestra will be selected from a high school category in the state of Missouri. The piece must be a recent work for symphony orchestra up to 10 minutes in duration. The piece must have been composed while the composer was living in Missouri.
