The Nouvelle Generation Chamber Orchestra is pleased to invite young and emerging composers of any nationality, age 35 and under, to submit a new composition based on the theme of: “The crazy adventures of Vivaldi in the 21 st century”. The winning composition will be performed at the Orchestra’s “VIVALDI WITHOUT BORDERS” concert, which will take place on January 21, 2017 at Salle Claude-Champagne in Montreal, Canada. The winning composer will receive a professional recording of their work in the weeks following the concert.* THE THEME OF THE COMPETITION Imagine Vivaldi walking the streets of Montreal, New York, Paris, Moscow, London or your own city in 2016. The idea is to write a piece reflecting what Vivaldi’s music would be like if he was living and writing nowadays. What kind of a score would come from his musical genes in the context of our contemporary daily life? The goal is not to create a pastiche but to capture a sense of Vivaldi’s artistry, under the influence of our era. REQUIREMENTS OF THE WORK 1 The composition should be 5 to 7 minutes long. 2 The instrumentation must be for string orchestra (4+4+3+2+1). 3 Respecting the theme of the contest, a slight variation of the tittle can be added at your discretion. BASIC REQUIREMENTS & GUIDELINES: • Unpublished works only. • Composers must be under age 35 as of January 1, 2016. • Submissions are limited to one composition per composer. • Submissions should be in PDF format, accompanied by Live or MIDI recordings in MP3 format, sent to info@orchestrenouvellegeneration.com • Please use the subject heading : ONG Composers Competition 2016-2017 • Please include the completed application form below and provide all relevant information SUBMISSION DEADLINE • Submissions must be received by December 18, 2016. ENTRY FEES • None. SELECTION • The winner will be notified by December 26, 2016. • The winner will be required to supply performance materials by no later than January 5, 2017. • Composers attending the performance is much appreciated but not required. The Orchestra will provide composers with a CD and/or DVD of the performance. *Please note that this recording shall be restricted to promotional use only. • The copyright remains with the composer. • The Nouvelle Generation Chamber Orchestra reserves the right to not select a winner.
