Details: TorQ Percussion Quartet (Toronto, ON) is once again pleased to announce the 2016 edition of the TorQ Percussion Seminar Composition Competition being run in conjunction with this summerʼs TorQ Percussion Seminar (July 30 – August 7) in Stratford, Ontario as part of TorQ Percussion Quartetʼs residency at Stratford Summer Music.

This annual competition was launched in 2013 as an extension of TPSʼs mandate to be a leading forum for contemporary percussionists from across Canada and beyond. Its aim is to inspire and promote the creation of fresh, bold, experimental and relevant new works for contemporary percussion ensemble. Over the past 3 years, the competition has elicited numerous submissions from across North America. This yearʼs competition is open to composers of all ages and countries of residence. Criteria for 2016 includes:

-Works must be written for intermediate/advanced level percussion ensemble (3-8 players preferred).
-Instrumentation is open and may include any combination of standard or non-standard percussion instruments (*feasibility of instrumentation may limit the possibility of the work being performed as part of the seminar; it is strongly encouraged to avoid writing for timpani and/or tubular chimes).

-Works should (ideally) not exceed 10 minutes in duration.
-Works must be original compositions (no arrangements/transcriptions).
-Works must have been completed being written no earlier than January 1st, 2015. -Composers may submit multiple entries. There is no entry fee.

Awards:
Grand Prize: $400 CAD and performance of work as part of TPS 2016
Runner-up: Performance of work as part of TPS 2016
(*Compositions will be evaluated and winners chosen by TPS 2016 faculty members. TPS reserves the right to not designate a winner if no composition is deemed worthy of the award(s). Contest results will be announced July 2016)
