Residential artists’ studio at Cape Cornwall

Residential artists’ studio at Cape Cornwall
Summary:Residency Opportunity
Deadline: 30 June 2015
Date Posted: 04 March 2015
Details: APPLYING FOR A RESIDENCY IN 2016
Brisons Veor is a retreat set up to enable professional artists to spend a focused period of time developing their work. It is open to visual artists, writers, musicians, composers, makers and designers in need of a concentrated period of time to develop their ideas.

Located on the western most edge of Cornwall in the UK, it provides a dedicated live-work space for self-funded residencies of between one to four weeks. Residencies from 1 January to 11 June and again from 10 September to 31 December 2016 will cost £250 for up to two people (including domestic electricity usage) plus £110 per additional person per week (pro rata). Residencies from 11 June to 10 September are charged at the high season rate of £350 for up to two people (including domestic electricity usage) plus £110 per additional person per week (pro rata).

During 2015, we are trialling a new application procedure. This is in response to increasing demand from artists for residencies at the house. The application form and examples of your work are our principle way of assessing the quality of your work and application. Please take time to complete it fully. This is your opportunity to tell us about what you do, what you’d like to do at Brisons Veor and why you feel we should offer you a residency. We want to enable as many artists as possible to experience Brisons Veor’s unique character and will give preference to new applicants. We also ask if people are willing to offer a talk or workshop during their stay at the house. Please only say yes if you genuinely want to engage with a wider public during a residency.

Application Deadlines
To ease management of applications and to enable artists to know the outcome more swiftly, there will be four deadlines throughout the year. These are 31 March, 30 June, 30 September and 31 December 2016.

We are asking artists to apply during 2015 for the equivalent quarter in the following year. The quarters run as follows:

1 January to 31 March; 1 April to 30 June; 1 July to 30 September; 1 October to 31 December

As an example, if you were interested in having a residency in 2016 starting 6 February you would need to submit your application by 31 March 2015, whereas, if you were interested in a residency from 4 June 2016, you would apply between 1 April and 30 June 2015. If you are able to attend at any time during 2016 please indicate this on your application form by saying ‘anytime’ in the dates box. (Don’t forget to indicate the number of weeks required.) If you are able to undertake a residency in numerous months (eg March, August, December) please give the dates on your form and we will automatically enter your application for subsequent quarters if approved by the Trustees if you have not been allocated a residency during the first quarter you are applying for. If we offer you a residency, we will endeavour to match your requested dates but this will depend on demand and how many applications we receive. We may offer you alternative dates in any given quarter.

We hope the above system is clear and will not cause applicants any difficulties. If you have specific questions please email admin@brisonsveor.org.uk for clarification. The upside of the new system is that we intend to let artists know within one month of each deadline whether or not they have been offered a residency in 2016. This we hope will be better for all concerned and allow time to rework and resubmit an application if it was initially unsuccessful. As this is a trial, we will review progress throughout 2015 and assess how effective the new procedure is. Please bear with us; we are aiming to improve the process for artists and the Trust! As an advance tip, please be aware that spring and autumn are the most popular periods when we experience the greatest demand.
