Since opening its doors in 1990, Akademie Schloss Solitude has supported approximately 1,200 young artists from more than 100 countries via its fellowship program. An institution which enjoys a formidable international reputation as a leading artist residency in Germany, the Akademie is distinguished particularly by its unique selection procedure, during which independent specialist jurors select the fellows, and its liberal project funding tailored to fellows’ individual needs. Artists working in the fields of architecture, visual arts, performing arts, design, literature, music/sound and video/film/new media may apply for fellowships. The Akademie developed a new, interdisciplinary work forum in 2002 in the form of its art, science & business program. Since then, fellowships have also been granted in the fields of humanities, exact sciences and economy/economics.

Conditions for Participation in the Summer Academy

- The Summer Academy is open to young composers, especially enrolled students of composition. Exceptions are possible.

- Candidate selection will be made by the Summer Academy instructors based on the applications.

- Course language: English

-Applicants must be covered by a health insurance.

Required work samples (as recent as possible):

Not more than three works with scores and recordings or when applicable, scores or recordings only. With regard to the pieces to be performed at the end of the course, participants have two choices:

1. To write a new piece for ensemble SurPlus for the line up below OR for any combination of instruments within this line up: fl, ob, cl, vn, vla, vc, db, pf, perc

2. To choose an existing piece which fits into the line-up of the ensemble.

3. The pieces should be maximum 10 min. long,

4. String quartets are not accepted.

5. Score and voices have to be delivered to the ensemble SurPlus by May 19, 2015 at the latest.

The Akademie Schloss Solitude cannot assume responsibility for submitted materials. They will be destroyed after the selections have been made. Selected applicants’ documentation will be retained in the Akademie’s archive.
