 Cardiff University PhD in Composition
Summary:Possible PhD Funding Opportunity
Deadline: 31 December 2014
Date Posted: 25 September 2014
Details: Cardiff School of Music is a lively and ambitious centre dedicated to first-class research, composition and performance and research-led teaching of the highest quality. The wide range of experience and expertise amongst the staff ensures that the School offers leading edge teaching and research in numerous areas of the discipline.

At the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, 70% of the School's submitted research was assessed as showing work of international excellence. The quality of the School's work attracts research income from all major research councils, including the British Academy, Leverhulme Trust and the Arts and Humanities Research Council, as well as public bodies such as Channel 4 and the Arts Council.

The PhD Programme

Postgraduate research at the School of Music is currently thriving, with over 40 students enrolled. All three areas of postgraduate research - Musicology, Performance and Composition - lead towards the degree of PhD. PhD programmes may be pursued full-time or part-time.
All postgraduate students participate in weekly seminars to discuss research issues and are invited to give presentations on their own research or compositions. These seminars are also business meetings at which practical matters concerning postgraduate study with the School may be raised. Special seminars and workshops are also often organised as part of more extended stays by visiting scholars and composers.
Our postgraduates are encouraged to promote their research beyond their immediate studies, whether it be in print, on air or in the concert hall.
