Chigwell Choir Young Composers’ Competition 2014

Chigwell Choir Young Composers’ Competition 2014
Summary:Young Composers' Choir Competition
Deadline: 28 July 2014
Date Posted: 16 May 2014
Details: The Chigwell Choir invites works of 2-4 minutes for chorus (SATB, no divisi) and organ, with optional trumpet, using any text appropriate for a WW1 concert. The winning entry will be awarded a prize of £400 and a performance.

The competition is open to young composers aged not more than 35 at the end of November 2014, who are of British nationality or have been resident for the last six months. The closing date for entries to be submitted is 28 July 2014.

The choice of text is the composer’s discretion, but must be appropriate for a first world war commemorative concert. If not in English, a translation should be provided. If a copyright text is used, the composer must include written permission for its use.

The chorus part should be composed with non-professional, less experienced performers in mind. There is no obligation to use the trumpet – that is at the discretion of the composer.

The judges (Judith Bingham and Alexander Campkin) will be looking for entries that, in their view, demonstrate the most creative and impressive balance between musical imagination in the setting of the words, and practicality of performance.

Prizes will be awarded at the discretion of the judges, whose decision is final. No correspondence relating to the judges’ decisions will be entered into. The Chigwell Choir reserves the right to amend, adapt or cancel this competition.

The winner will be announced in September 2014. By entering the competition the winner agrees to be present at the premiere on Saturday 15 November 2014, and to take part in publicity.
